Education transforms lives. I believe that it is a human right for all throughout life. Schools are playing a vital role in this transformation since its inceptions. System is essential but the “Child” is important in the whole scenario. We developed systems but need to develop a child centric Ecosystem for our children.
Its work comprehends educational development from pre-school to higher education and beyond. It should include global citizenship and sustainable development, human rights and gender equality, health as well as technical and vocational skills development.
The ultimate Goals of human life are widely spoken in our age-old Indian Culture and traditions. It emphasises on four ‘Purusharthas’; An object of Human pursuits:
Artha: signifies the means of life, activities and resources
Kama: signifies the desire, wish & passion
Dharma: signifies behaviour and
Moksha: signifies emancipation, liberation or release
What I believe the concept of Education must be aligned and encompassed with the harmonious accomplishment of these human values as they are consciously sought by human beings. An integrated pursuit of these four-fold values of life results in the blossoming of a cohesive personality where a child will get an answer of “Who am I and what for am I”.
“The school should always have its aim that the young man will leave it as a harmonious personality, not as a specialist”. -Albert Einstein”
UNICEF defined “The goal of a human rights-based approach to education is simple: to assure every child a quality education that respects and promotes her or his right to dignity and optimum development”. Achieving this goal is, however, enormously more complex.
